Science and Art go hand - in - hand. John James Audubon beautifully cataloged the birds of America with his watercolors, and Monet captured the effect of changing light in his landscapes. Leonardo DaVinci is known for Mona Lisa, but he also created illustrations of inventions, plants, animals, and human anatomy. He wasn't just an amazing artist, he was a scientist ahead of his time.
People often don't think of scientists when they think of art. My whole life I have loved science and focused my energies there. It was only fairly recently that I began turning my love of science into art. I took an introductory art course in college, and stopped painting after it was over. I always wanted to pick it up again, there just never seemed to be the time. A few years ago I started drawing and painting during a difficult time, and I found a great deal of solace in that. Time seems to stop while I am working on art, and I am able to escape into the world I am creating for a little while. It is also a way for me to spend time exploring my first love - nature.
What do you think about art and science? Did you ever think of all of those illustrations in your Biology book as art?
